* Gdybym nie wiedział, że Monie to Brytyjka, w życiu bym nie powiedział. Możliwe, że przesiąkła amerykanizmami dzięki współpracy z Native Tongue. Nie istotne - jej debiut to jeden z klasycznych albumów, nie ważne, czy z Wysp, czy Stanów. Monie wyznaczyła nowy kierunek, nie tylko brzmieniem, ale i tekstami. Monie mówi o byciu silną kobietą i jest bardzo 'down to Earth' - czyli stoi twardo na ziemi. Od samego początku jej kawałki znałem z różnych składanek (Turn Up The Bass Rap albo Soft Rap, nie wspominając o licznych piratach), więc kiedy udało mi się zdobyć pełną płytę, połowę materiału dobrze znałem i lubiłem - i lubię do tej pory. Monie ma wspaniałe flow, które podkreślone jest beatami od Jungle Brothers, The Beatnuts, a także kilku house'owych producentów (m.in. Richie Fermie). Mamy tu bowiem przekrój brzmień popularnych u wejścia w lata 90. Jak dla mnie to klasyk, do którego lubię powracać, świetny album.
* If I didn't know, that Monie is British, I wouldn't say so. It is possible that she got that american vibe from the people she was cool with - Native Tongue. It doesn't matter - her debut album is one of the classics and no matter if that was England or the USA. Monie set a new direction, not only with her sound, but also with the lyrics. She speaks about being a strong woman and she is really 'down to Earth' - she stands strong on her two feet. I knew her songs from the beginning - from different compilations (Turn Up The Bass Rap or Soft Rap, not mentioning bootleggers), so when I managed to buy a whole album, I already knew half of the material and I liked it - and I still like it. Monie has got a great flow which is stressed by the beats from Jungle Brothers, The Beatnuts and some house producers like Richie Fermie. We have here a full range of sounds, popular in the beginning of the '90s. As for me it is a classic and I like to come back to it, excellent album.
