* Płytę kupiłem wiele lat temu w moim ulubionym sklepie Music Fan. I tak wiele czasu przeleżał tam na półce, bo bałem się tego, co mogę usłyszeć - wszak okładka mówiła, że to goście z Portoryko, a ja wówczas nie miałem żadnego doświadczenia z karaibskim rapem - poza Jamajką oczywiście, ale to inny rodzaj grania. W końcu zdecydowałem się, to i tak ledwie 10 złych. I w sumie okazało się, że nie ma się czego bać. To już piąty ich album, ale dopiero pierwszy, który okazał się sukcesem - sprzedano kilka milionów sztuk tej płyty! Sam singiel 'Rakata' narobił mnóstwo szumu, zresztą przy większości ciężko usiedzieć. To raggaeton, specyficzna mieszanka ragga, rapu i brzmień karaibskich, rymowana i śpiewana po hiszpańsku. Niesamowite klubowe bangery, nawet kiedy rapperzy wchodzą na tematy typu 'street reality', to nadal brzmi jak zachęta do tańca. Wiele osób odmawia muzyce raggaeton prawa do funkcjonowania jako część hip hopu, ale uważam, że to niesprawiedliwe. Można tego nie lubić, ale to muzyka, jaka rusza fanów hip hopu z Karaibów i koniec. Łączenie calypso, soca, dancehall i rapu sprawdza się jak dla mnie w 100% - może dlatego, że ja lubię takie etniczne wkręty. Niezła płyta, ale na pewno nie dla ortodoksów.
* I bought this record many years ago in my favorite shop Music Fan. It was collecting dust on the shelf there, because i was too afraid of buiyng it - the cover said they are from Puerto Rico and I didn't have any experience with Carrabean rap then - except of Jamjaica naturally. So I finally decided to get it for 2 euro. And it showed that there was nothing to be afraid of. This is their fifth album, but the first successful one - they sold a few millions of it! The single 'Rakata' made a lot of noise, but actually most of the songs make your legs move. It's raggeaton, very specific mixture of ragga, rap and different Carrabean sounds with rhymes and singing in Spanish. Incredible club bangers, and even when the rappers get into the street reality, it still sounds like an invitation to dance. A lot of people deny raggeaton any rights to hip hop music, but I think it is not fair. You don't have to like it, but this is music that moves many fans in many countries, point blank. Calypso, soca, dancehall, rap - that mixture is legit I like it - maybe because I'm into that ethnical vibes. Nice record, but definetly not for the orthodox.
