BLOOD RAW – Indictment Papers

 [CMP 2007]

* This emcee from Florida, Jeezy's friend, made a lot of records. This is his second album, actually a mikstape, but it doesn't matter. I remember, that he didn't appeal to me much, but after 10 years from the last listening to him it shows, that it is just  a big bomb of southern sound. Some blends, plenty of new and unreleased songs, including some dope ass bangers. The pace is fast, Blood Raw gets better with every track and I really don't know, why I didn't like it.

EAST 17 – Steam

   [London 1994]

Kto by pomyślał, że sprzedawali kiedyś więcej płyt, niż Take That z Robbie Williamsem? Podobno dlatego, że byli 'real to the game'. I co Ty na to?

* As a teenager I bought a debut tape from East 17, because 'House Of Love' had a powerplay everywhere and the rest was not worse. I bought the second album of momentum - such music was popular in the 90s, doesn't matter that it was made by a few white boys from London. I listenedo to 'Steam' lately, a bit nostalgically, but I must admit that I wanted to diss them boys, but I just can't do that. First thing first, they have nice voices, they can sing and rhyme (a bit worse than sing). Secondly, I always loved New Jack Swing and they tried to fit in such kind of vibe (it is a bit similar to Bell Biv De Voe). Besides, we have here rap, house, ragga, r&b, scratches, samples and etc. Who would ever thought that they sold more than Take That with Robbie Williams? Because they were 'real to the game'. How about that?

LUPE FIASCO – Tetsuo & Youth

  [Atlantic 2015]

* Lupe is a kind of rapper that Ireally don't know what to think about. I own all of his albums and they are not even, espoecially those before 'T&Y'. But when his fifth album arrived, I had to readapt my beliefs. Damn, this guy is incredible. The music alone is enough to feel the vibrations - less known producers, but most of the beats are great. But the real art is on the mic. Lupe went further. He made his game so complex and multi-level, that it is very difficult to understand everything at once. Or at the tenth time. The 'Mural' as an intro lasts for 9 minutes - at first I thought that I skipped something, but no, this dude really flows all the time, jumping from one idea to another. Personally I was blown by 'Chopper' with a twisted meaning. But there are more of that stuff here and the richness of outlook can murder the tuffest philosophers. I am not sure, but I guess it's the best Lupe's work.

EARTHLING – Radar

 [Cooltempo 1995]

Mau to rapper - obdarzony fajnym głosem i niezłym flow (podobnym czasem do Fresh Prince), jednak jego teksty zbyt często oscylują wokół różnych abstrakcji, czasem wręcz irytująco infantylnych.

* I wouldn't pay attention to this group if I didn't hear them in one radio programme in a song 'Soup or no soup'. I got so hooked up! But just after over 10 years I found their first album to buy - so I bought it immediatly! Earthling is a Bristol squad which floats on the outskirts of hip hop: Tim Saul makes beats which u can easily call trip hop with jazz elements - besides, Geoff Barrow from Portishead scratched here for them and he touched the production as well. Anyway, there's good mood, calm and just good. Mau is a rapper - he has nice voice and tight flow (sometimes he reminds me of Fresh Prince), but his lyrics are too abstract, sometimes it's irritating childich. But the album is quite good and I like to come back to it.

ORISHAS – Emigrante

 [Surco 2002]

* Kiedy wyszła pierwsza płyta tego kubańskiego składu, wszyscy nabrali oddechu i słuchali niczym urzeczeni. Mnie też to wzięło. Goście umieją rymować, toastować, śpiewać i robią to dobrze.

* When the first album from that Cuban squad was released, everyone held their breath and listened enchanted. Those rhythms, totally melodic and catchyhooks, Spanish rhymin... I got into it as well. Then it showed that yes, it's a Cuban crew, but they are 'emigrantes' in France - that's why they took the title like this. Media was trying to make them political refugees, but no shit - they are the first Cuban rap band to be greeted by fidel Castro - and they are real heroes in Cuba. Their force comes out of two sources - classic american rap and their Cuban roots. and it makes a real explosive mixture of hip hop and Carribean rhythms (salsa and rumba) - but don't look for reggeaton here, that's a different type of shit. Fantastic, sung hooks drill the ears and stay there deeply. Rappers can rhyme, toast, sing and they are good at it. Of course, u gotta enjoy musical travels - orthodox won't understand this, but i like it very much - even if the debut album was much better.

IAM – Ombre Est Lumiere

   [Delabel 1993]

* I was confused when I saw this album has got two covers: red and blue and the content is different. Finally after some time I realised, that the blue one is an original version and the red one is reedition with remixes. I own both (there's a single version of 'Je danse le mia' on the red one!), but I can't decide which one is better. Anyway, this double album, second in the discography of this Marsille group is lit. Actually, there ain't no weak song - since I saw 'Le Shit Squad' on French TV and video for 'Je danse le mia' (here in different, but not worse version) I was sure that I'm gonna like this album. Egyptological throwbacks, oriental samples, classic percussions, scratches - everything drags you in - even if I don't like double albums. I didn't mention Freeman, Akhenaton and Shurik'n, but what shall I say, when everyone is great on the mic and it is a pleasure to listen to them, even when u can't understand French. But if u can... You can get lost in the sauce because of the abundance of conspiracy theories :) Anyway, the rappers touch many important topics, so the atmosphere is heavy. Excellent album, one of the French classics forever.

LUDACRIS – Ludaversal

 [Def Jam 2015]

Ja to kupuję.

* Luda is a type of rapper who seems to be highly underrated. He's got skills, he's got flow, lyrics. And again, his ninth album shined and went out soon, as anyone other. I don't know why, but I never think of listening to Luda myself - but when I come across one, I usually enjoy it. Especially because 'Ludaversal' is a really nice album with tight production - nothing to complain. Luda has good lyrics with a lot of sharp humour, but he can also spit some serious shit. Some say that this record prooved that Luda is over. That there's nothing new. But it is not about being new - Ludacris gets nice beats and his flow is still fresh, he sounds as he used to. Is it good or bad - u have to decide by yourself. I buy it.
