* Pierwsza płyta składu mnie rozwaliła - naprawdę, to doskonała porcja hip hopu. Drugi album wyszedł rok później, ale przeszedł bez echa. Trochę nawaliła dystrybucja, trochę odstraszyła zaporowa cena. Dopóki nie znalazłem albumu na wyprzedaży, nie miałem ochoty wysupłać prawie 50 złych za ten krążek. Tym bardziej, że nie jest to już to samo, co na debiucie. Owszem, instrumenty grają, jest rap, beatbox, skrecz, ale zaczęło wchodzić tu zbyt dużo oboczności, które rozwadniają materiał. Funk, ragga - to są rzeczy, które napędzają, ale mamy tu też nieco popu, czy bluesa, które w sumie średnio pasują. Nie jest to zły krążek, ale spodziewałem się czegoś więcej.   
                             
* The first album of this group was lit - really, great hip hop. Second one was released a year later but it didn't knock on any door. The distribution and promotion failed, besides it just cost too much with no reason. I just didn't want to pay 12 euro for the album, while normal price is like 7-8 euro. The more that it just ain't the same as on the debut. Yes, plenty of live instruments, rap, beatbox, scratch, but they added too many side sounds, which water the material down. Funk, ragga - these are the things to speed up the pace, but we also have some pop appeal and blues, which just don't fit much. It ain't a bad record, but I expected something more.

CULCHA CANDELA – Flätrate

* Pierwsze płyty tego składu były czymś nowym i świeżym, łykałem mocno. Uganda, Niemcy, Polska, Korea i Kolumbia, czyli kraje pochodzenia członków oznaczały, że to będzie wybuchowa mikstura. I w sumie jest, choć szósta płyta już może nie ma tyle świeżości, raczej jest krokiem wprzód (w bok?) w stosunku do początków. Czy mi się to podoba? I tak, i nie. Z czasem Culcha Candela zaczęła zbijać swoją muzykę z pop papkę z elementami hip hopu, a nie odwrotnie. Mamy tu więc mnóstwo ogranych mainstreamowych patentów, połączonych z rapem, ragga, electro, raggaeton i czym tam jeszcze chcesz. Czasem brzmi to naprawdę fajnie, czasem palec nieuchronnie biegnie ku przyciskowi skip. To już nie jest ten sam zespół, co pięć lat temu. Szkoda.

* First albums of that squad were fresh and something new, I dug'em. Uganda, Germany, Poland, Korea and Colombia, the countries of members' origin meant, that it's gonna be an explosive mixture. And actually, it is. Even if the sixth album ain't that fresh, this album is a step fowradr (aside?) according to the beginnings. Do I like it? Well, yes and no. As the time was passing, Culcha Candela started to make the music as a pop pulp with elements of hip hop, not the opposite as it used to. So we have plenty of played out pop ideas, put togehter with rap, ragga, electro, raggeaton and whatever you want. Sometimes it is really nice, but sometimes your finger goes definetly in the direction of skip button. It ain't the same as it used to be 5 years ago. Pity.

EVIL ED & CONSPICUOUS – The Get Together

* Cieszyłem się, kiedy udało mi się dostać ten krążek, i to w dobrej cenie. Evil Ed to angielski producent i DJ, związany z wieloma legendarnymi brytyjskimi wykonawcami i działający na scenie od końca lat '80. Jego muzyka to klasyczny bumbap plus skrecze - wszystko tu kołysze głową do beatu i płynie jak za najlepszych czasów brytyjskiego hip hopu. Conspicuous zaś to pochodzący z Turcji rapper składu The Colony, który jest wprawdzie nieco młodszy stażem od Eda, ale ma sporo skillsów na majku i pasuje doskonale do tych podkładów. Żeby było weselej, mamy tu trochę gości, i to znanych. Nie tylko z UK: Jehst, Doc Brown, ale i z USA: Shabbam Sahdeeq, czy L.I.F.E. Long. I czy to mamy tu poważne tematy o życiu w Londynie, czy lekkie letniaki - za każdym razem wszystko jest przemyślane i poskładane. Bardzo fajny krążek.

* I was happy to get this album in a good price. Evil Ed is an English producer and DJ, affiliated with plenty of legendary British artists - he's been busy on the scene since the late '80s. His music is classic bumbap plus scratches - everything nods your head and flows as in the best British rap years. Conspicuous is a rapper with Turkish descent, a member of The Colony crew, who's here a bit shorter, but he's got many skills on the mic and he fits perfectly here. To make thing more enjoyable, we have some well-known guests here. Not only from UK, like Jehst, Doc Brown, but also from the USA: Shabbam Sahdeeq or L.I.F.E. Long. And it doesn't matter whether there are serious tracks about life in London or summertime hits - everything is perfectly made up. A very good album.

UTP – The Beginning Of The End... Screwed & Chopped

* Nie jestem fanem rzeczy pociętych i zjechanych, ani nawet zwolnionych. I zazwyczaj nie kupuję takich płyt - chyba, że się pomylę, tak jak tutaj. W sumie nawet nie wiem czemu to kupiłem, nie zauważyłem napisu 'chopped & screwed', a po prostu chciałem pierwszy album UTP. Bo w zasadzie jeśli chodzi o Hot Boy$, to najbardziej z nich lubiłem Juvenile (razem z B.G.), a tu towarzyszą mu Skip (jego solówka też jest bardzo w porządku) i Wacko. OG Ron C pociął album UTP w taki sposób, że, owszem, wokale są zwolnione, ale wpasowane w beat i nie robią wrażenia pociętych byle jak i wrzuconych na spowolnioną muzykę. Raz, że cała trójka robi niezłe rzeczy w stylistyce New Orlean, dwa, że OG Ron C również wie, jak pociąć numery. Miałem to wywalić, ale... spodobało mi się na tyle, że zachowałem. 

* I am not a fan of those chopped and screwed things, not even of those slowed down. And I usually don't buy such kind of records - I may do this by mistake only - just as I did here. I don't even know why I bought it - I must have missed 'chopped & screwed' notice - I just wanted to have first UTP album. Cause when it comes to Hot Boys, I have always liked Juvienile the most (along with B.G.), and here we also have Skip (his solo album is also very nice) and Wacko. OG Ron C cut this album in a way that leaves the vocals slowed, but they fit in the beat and they don't seem to be just thrown onto the chopped beat. First of all, the whole three make good things in New Orleans style, secondly, OG Ron C knows how to chop. I was supposed to throw this album out, but... I kinda like it enought to put it on the shelf.

Z-TRIP – All Pro Soundtrack

* Zasadniczo Z-Trip ma szacunek, bo to niebywały DJ. I ja to szanuję. Po 'Shifting Gears' byłem nastawiony bardzo na tak, więc kiedy miałem okazję nabyć kolejny album, nie wahałem się. To rodzaj albumu producenckiego - mamy tu dziesiątki różnych brzmień, od klasycznego hip hopu po dość ostry rock, bossanova, electro i rzeczy tego typu - niektórymi naprawdę nie pogardziliby Ugly Duckling. Zaowocowało to gitarową wersją 'Let The Rhythm Hit'em' Rakima, czy w ogóle rockowym kawałkiem Backyard Bangers. Ale poza tym mamy tu śmietankę rapperów: Chali 2na, Aceyaolne, dead prez, Slug, Casual, Pep Love czy Gift Of Gab. Cały czas mam mieszane uczucia - część jest naprawdę niezła, ale kiedy wchodzą te klimaty typu numetal, robi się przaśnie. Płyta nie jest najgorsza, ale według mnie nie ma się tu czym zachwycać. 

* Generally, Z-Trip has much props, because it is an incredible DJ. And I respect it. After 'Shifting Gears' I became a fan, so when I had a chance to get another album, I just did it. It is a kind of producer's album - we have tens of sounds, from classic hip hop to hard rock, bossanova, electro and all those different typa thangs - some of them would sound good on Ugly Duckling records. As a result there's a guitar version of Rakim's 'Let The Rhythm Hit'em' or pure rock song 'Backyard Bangers'. Apart from that there's top list of emcees: Chali 2na, Aceyaolne, dead prez, Slug, Casual, Pep Love or Gift Of Gab. But all the time I have mixed feelings - some songs are really good, but when it comes to that numetal shit, it starts getting awkward. The album ain't bad, but there's nothing to be delighted about.

SCHOOLBOY Q – Oxymoron

* Pamiętam, jak wszyscy (czytaj: każdy) jarali się tym albumem: że świeży, że teksty, że technika, że pomysły... Wszak nie był to debiut, mimo, że Q wyszedł po raz pierwszy u mejdżorsa. Na szczęście fan.pl oferuje często premiery w doskonałych cenach niezbyt długo po premierze. To sobie kupiłem, a co. I dołączyłem do grona jarających się. Owszem, jest to świeże. I to jak bardzo! Z jednej strony mamy trapowe kawałki - głębokie, dudniące, powodujące echo w głowie. Z drugiej zupełnie typowe, kalifornijskie bujacze. No i ci goście: Kendrick Lamar, Raekwon, Kurupt, Tyler, Suga Free, czy Jay Rock. Q ma ten uliczny sznyt, ale opowiada o życiu na dzielni w bardzo specyficzny i mało oczywisty sposób. Klimaty zmieniają się z każdym kawałkiem, co sprawia, że nie ma tu nudy. Naprawdę fajny krążek. 

* I remember when everyone (means: each and every) was telling that this album is lit: fresh, lyrics, technique, ideas... That wasn't his debut, even if Q went out with this one at major label. Luckily, fan.pl shop often offers new albums in great prices, not so long after the premiere. So I bought myself a copy, why not. And I become one of the fans of the record. Yes, it is fresh So much! We have trap songs - deep, thumpin, making echoes in the head. On the other hand there are quite typical tracks, California rock. And those guests: Kendrick Lamar, Raekwon, Kurupt, Tyler, Suga Free or Jay Rock. Q has got that street shit, but he's telling the street stories in a very original and not obvious way. The vibe changes with every song, so you just can't get bored. Really good album.

A więc kręci się, kręci... Album numer 7500 na mojej liście to Nutmeg 'Ghetto's Child'. Odsłuchuję teraz płyty, które wpadły mi na przełomie kwietnia i maja, więc zasadniczo jestem w dupie na pół roku. Ciekawe, czy kiedy ostatnio kupiłem kolejne partie, znajdzie się dużo dubli, czy nie?

So it goes on and on... Album number 7500 on my list is Nutmeg 'Ghetto's Child'. I'm listening tothe records I bought at the break of April and May. I am in a deep ass for about half a year with that. So I was wondering: when I buy records nowadays - how many doubles do I have?
